- Abstract:
The Many Faces of Microbial Life
We are very pleased to welcome you to the 69th Annual Assembly of the Swiss Society for Microbiology in Zürich. The conference will take place in the ETH main building, which is very close to the historic city center. Besides Science, this offers you the possibility to explore a picturesque town that has been ranked many times as city with the highest quality of living worldwide.
To accommodate the broad diversity of interests and expertise of microbiologists gathered within the community we have chosen a more general theme for our 2010 meeting, entitled “The Many Faces of Microbial Life”. As a consequence, the program will cover a wide range of topics with emphasis on three broad research areas: “Microbial Communities: Structure, Function and Interactions” will highlight recent advances in microbial ecology, “Molecular Microbiology and Infection” encompasses both infection biology and front-line fundamental research, and “Viral Diseases and Pandemics” will provide you with the latest insights on the prominent diseases caused by different viruses and their global spread. In the tradition of previous society meetings, the three main themes will be highlighted in plenary lectures held by distinguished scientist as well as well as in parallel sessions featuring selected presentations by invited speakers. Additional oral presentations have been selected from the many abstracts submitted. Finally, the poster sessions will provide participants and authors with ample time to discuss science in an informal atmosphere.
We are grateful to all members of the scientific committee and the SSM executive board for their help, enthusiasm and support to attract world leading experts to present their work at this assembly.
Last, but not least, we are confident that you will enjoy not only the vibrant scientific program but also the beautiful city of Zürich, and are looking forward to meeting you in June !
